7 Reasons Why You Need to Adopt Mobile Marketing in Your Small Business

Okay, it’s now official, as if it wasn’t before this: mobile marketing needs to play a significant role in your business, whether you’re ready for it or not. The truth is, your customers are! And you definitely want to be where they are.

We are a mobile society now, with 75 percent of us admitting to taking our smartphone to the bathroom with us. More to the point, 4 out of 5 consumers are using smartphones to shop, and a whopping 70 percent of mobile searches lead to an action with one hour!

Let’s take a peek at some best practices you can use to integrate mobile marketing into your business.

5 Ways to make mobile work for your small business

Mobile site – The first step is ensuring that you have a mobile presence. Your website in its web-only form will likely show up partially at best on a mobile device without being mobile optimized. Make sure to design exclusively for your mobile version: Less text, bigger call to action buttons, fewer images and videos, more engagement options, such as social media.

Mobile only deals – A great way to capture consumers that are out and about looking to lighten their wallets is by offering deals for customers who are in the neighborhood. You can target this through text messages, and get many to act on a spur of the moment special. This can work especially well for a restaurant whose lunch may be a bit slow, and sends out a text or social media message announcing “20% Off Lunch for the next hour!”

Make it sharable – This works best when your content is sharable, and can be acted upon. The possibility of having your content spread far and wide, without any further action by you, is the great attraction of social media and mobile. None of that happens however, if you don’t do the groundwork to make it possible.

Apps if you please – Studies are showing that people spend 89 percent of their time on apps. If it makes any sense whatsoever for your business, you need to get in the game as well. This can range from something entertaining to an app that is entirely more useful for your bottom line.

Mobile and social are married – In case you weren’t invited, the marriage took place some time ago, and the couple is doing very well, thank you. People spend so much time on their phones using social media, and being able to share your site, offers and news to their spheres of influence is priceless to you. Make sure that your own social media is up to the task as well, as you’ll want to be able to jump into the fun!

How to Create Valuable Content to Give Away!

It’s a common practice to ethically bribe your visitors onto your email lists by offering them something of value. Value is the key here, because who needs one more rehashed ebook crammed full of great information from four years ago?

No, the best practice today is to give the best, most relevant and current information you can deliver, and make it fit exactly the type of audience you hope to attract. Don’t follow the herd and give what’s convenient: your audience is looking to you to be the authority they seek. Make sure you deliver!

Three points to consider with your opt-in offer…

Make it social – These days we live in an extremely social environment, and you are doing yourself and huge disservice if you don’t take advantage of this when it comes to list building. Make your offer sharable, and aggressively market this via your own social media accounts.

Make it at least partly visual – We are an increasingly visual bunch, and the likelihood of your offer being acted upon is far greater if there is a visual component. This can be something as simple as compelling images, but strive to make it  as visual as possible. This will also increase social shares.

Make it specific – Whatever problem or tactic you choose to address in your market, be sure it is very specific. No longer can you get away with offering to send them email updates. You need to give specific answers to the questions your audience wants to know about. Don’t know what those are? Time to find out!

Our 5 favorite ways to create list-bait

Here are 5 great ways to generate a freebie for email signups. Make sure you use the method that most fits your style and business.

  1. Video – Making a video has many advantages. They show off you and your business as a real, personable entity, and go a long way toward helping develop trust. Not only that, they are easily sharable, allowing for the possibility of a wider reach.
  2. Ebook – Ebooks don’t have to be boring, but it’s your job to make sure they aren’t! Treat them like you were launching a book, with an attractive cover and above all, well written and immensely valuable content.
  3. Podcast – Podcasts are terrific tools to reach an audience on the go. If you’ve interviewed thought leaders in your space, this can be list bait that won’t be ignored.
  4. Email Course – Also known as an e-course, this is a way to deliver a lot of useful content and build trust and rapport over a period of time. Not only that, you can easily build to a goal by carefully crafting your autoresponder sequence, making your eventual goal easy to achieve by the time the last email hits their inbox.
  5. Free Webinar – One of the best ways to deliver lots of great content, build a list and sell at the same time, webinars are getting easier and easier to produce and deliver. Even something as simple as a Google Hangout can get you great results.
